Friday on the WBF
Friday on the WBF is traditionally dedicated to the scientific and academic books, what is connected with simultaneous organisation of The Academic Book Fair ACADEMIA. It was also an opportunity to introduce prize winners of important awards for the best academic textbooks and the best economic, technical and historical books.
On the 2nd day of the WBF took place an undoubtedly important event for the publishing trade: a meeting organized by the Guest of Honour, Polish Chamber of Books and The French Institute. In this event there also participated representatives of the Polish and French Ministry of Culture, German Association of Publishers and Booksellers and Kurt Wolff Foundation, which associates independent German publishers and booksellers.
The meeting was focused on an exchange of information and experiences between Poland, Germany and France with reference to the promotion of the readership, an institutional, substantial and financial support for bookselling. There was also analysed an influence of the specific legal regulation on the German and French publishing market. This regulation refers to the idea of the constant price of a book (fix prize). This matter is currently talked-about in Poland, because a part of publishing community initiated legislative work in the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
Now we are waiting for the Fair’s Saturday, which is always a great feast of books and literature and its main characters are authors and readers.
